We believe carrying out bodyweight and lifting weight exercises impact your confidence, how you feel towards yourself, how you look; building muscle and increasing your self esteem not forgetting tackling any form of anxiety. 

It is widely accepted that resistance training decreases your anxiety and  improves the functioning of your central nervous system - this includes your mood and fatigue levels. 

Phoenix Fitness would like to be beside your side through any tough times, we would  advise you that lifting any weights i.e kettlebells during your process of feeling powerless, anxious and emotionally drained can be beneficial for you. 

If you keep going, keep focused and stay composed you will start to feel physically strong, you will start to realise with lifting weights you become emotionally present, in control of your moods, your physical strength will increase, you will become bolder mentally, it will leave you feeling confident and safe, less exhausted and help you sleep.

Regular exercise can help you to keep alert, improve concentration and most importantly boost your mental sharpness. 

It has been noted that improved blood pressure and energy levels that are associated with intense workouts can be crucial in contributing to your brains health.

During your daily life you need to give yourself a break when trying to power throughs the ups and downs in life. You owe yourself at least half an hour to control and prevent depression. 

Give yourself the opportunity to undertake fitness activities, get yourself involved in high-intensity interval training (HIIT) sessions to help you fight off depression during the coming winter months, however this means you will need to be committed to yourself and to the workout whilst getting rid of any discouragement to achieve your goal of keeping your depression under control.

It’s time to try and remove any medication (always consult a doctor) and result to fitness as your weekly or daily dose of medicine. 

Below is an example workout we have provided you to experiment with, enjoy the benefits!

7 minute HIIT workout - 30 seconds 

Do as many reps as you can of each exercise, rest for 10 seconds. 

Repeat the set two times:

  • Jumping Jacks
  • Squats 
  • Lunges 
  • Pushups
  • Crunches
  • Wallsit
  • Step-ups 

To see if this method of exercise is working, track your mood.
This will give you an indication of how successful HIIT is and it will provide you with what time of day you most needed a boost - you will start to see that HIIT training is an important aspect to your mental health treatment but this is not a magic fix to depression.

The biggest limitation of using fitness exercises as fix for depression is that it requires a lot of motivation.

Knowing that you can improve your mental health in short space of time should be motivating enough for you to make exercises a part of your week/daily routines. 

Relieve stress:

Incorporating fitness into your daily life is a great way to reduce stress. 

Believe it or not, stress alone is a fighting battle in your brain, when dealing with stress your blood pressure starts to rise causing you to sweat as-well experiencing rapid adrenaline rushes but luckily for you we can advise you cardiovascular training is your hero. It plays an important role in reducing stress on your body. 

There is a vast range of cardiovascular exercises you can try however the most effective cardiovascular exercises are the ones that use large muscle groups that require you to use your own body weight.
