Anna Martin Fitness

Phoenix Fitness:

Hi Anna I know your bio says you love cheese and run around looking crazy but surely there’s more to you than that?

Anna Martin Fitness:

Well…… that just about sums me up! I’ve worked in dance and fitness for over 10 years and I’m insanely passionate about making resistance training available to more women especially via the medium of group exercise.

Women are statistically more likely to train in a group exercise situation and I feel very strongly that they should have just has good a workout in that class as they would get if they were training with a PT.

Gone are the days when cardio is king and it’s really important that group exercise keeps up with that! I also have a degree in Spanish and Management and as you mentioned, a teeny addiction to cheese lol!

Phoenix Fitness:

Now I have done my online stalking and have seen images of you training hard in the gym would you like to elaborate?

Anna Martin Fitness:

Ha ha, I’m massively into the gym…. I know it’s not for everyone but for me it sets my soul on fire. I have scoliosis which is a lateral curvature of the spine and I have spent years learning how to train around it. I finally feel like I’m getting somewhere and I’m very excited to see what I can make my body do next!

Phoenix Fitness:

So you seem to have been involved at a high level in some very serious pursuits what made you move over to personal trainer?

Anna Martin Fitness:

I was a street dancer and a dance teacher for a long time after leaving uni, my back was playing up… I had very intense muscle spasms and was taking a lot of muscle relaxants. I fell into Zumba Fitness and from there into resistance training both bodyweight and in the gym.

I’ve always trained but moving into the fitness world as a career made me realise how much more I could do and how much there was to learn. I them moved from Group Exercise into PT  and although I still have the occasional PT client, my heart lies with group ex.

There is nothing like the fitness events I present at…. 200 people in a room all doing the same thing at the same time…. It’s off the charts!

Phoenix Fitness:

Currently you offer a number of different classes, would you like to outline these and why you choose these?

Anna Martin Fitness:

I teach Clubbercise (I work for them as a Master-Trainer, presenter and choreographer), Zumba Fitness and I also teach my own concepts Rave Tone and Hype Dance Fit as well as freestyle HIIT, boxing and lots of barbell classes.

I like to offer a range of classes to appeal to different people and then persuade them of the joys of lifting weights!

Phoenix Fitness:

Looking at your classes would you say NEAT is as or more important that what people would consider as classical fitness training?

Anna Martin Fitness:

It is obviously important to stay active as much as possible in day to day life but in my opinion a person cannot get enough resistance training in most lines of work.

In this day and age, everyone who has a non-manual job should be engaged in some kind of resistance workout even if they manage to get their cardio from daily activity.

Phoenix Fitness:

What are your personal fitness goals?

Anna Martin Fitness:

To push my body as far as possible, to gain muscle especially through my lower body which suffers because of my back. To be as strong as I can and to continue to create a deeper mind to muscle connection.

Phoenix Fitness:

What are you struggling with the most right now?

Anna Martin Fitness:

Work and training is normally the thing that I can keep going with no matter what, it’s a constant that I can rely on to make me feel good no matter what may be going on in my own personal life..

I guess the thing I find hardest is feeling truly fulfilled because I’m always looking on to the next thing!

Phoenix Fitness:

What are you loving the most right now?

Anna Martin Fitness:

Finding a work – training – life balance….. I used to be a bit of a workaholic but recently I’ve really learnt the value of taking a step back and finding time to spend with my important people.

Having some time out really increases my focus and makes me feel much happier!

Phoenix Fitness:

What is your favourite exercise regime right now?

Anna Martin Fitness:

I teach around 4-5 hours of cardio a week (down from 23 when I first started!!!! lol) and I train in the gym 4-5 times a week, pure weights and resistance…. Cardio free zone!

I split body parts, currently with a lower body focus on at least 2-3 of the days I train as my upper body is much happier to gain muscle than the bottom half (dammit!)

Having some time out really increases my focus and makes me feel much happier!

Phoenix Fitness:

What’s next for Anna Martin and where can people connect with you?

Anna Martin Fitness:

I am about to launch an instructor portal which will have my concepts Rave Tone and Hype Dance Fit for sales as well as an in-depth dance and fitness library designed to give the instructor a bigger catalogue to create their own freestyle concepts!

This means they can tailor their classes to the needs of their participants, with much more ease!
