Phoenix Fitness:
How did you start off your fitness journey?

Don:
I got involved in physique training because I like the aesthetics as a teenager I was very impressed and wanted to achieve the same thing.

Phoenix Fitness:
At what stage in your life where you encouraged to get into fitness?

Don:
I have always been competitive playing football from a very young age so I’ve always been active.

Phoenix Fitness:
Did you invest in fitness equipment?

Don:
I invested in pull up bars to fit onto the door frame and a couple of Phoenix Fitness products such as a kettlebell, Battle ropes, Resistance Tubes, Hydration Bottle, Push up bars and the 15kg Dumbbell set.

Phoenix Fitness:
Have you ever tried working out at home and how did this work out for you?

Don:
I believe it is important to stay active and an active lifestyle starts from home. It encourages you to improve on body weight exercises to develop fitness level and strength. I started off doing body weight exercises; 100 sit ups and 100 Push Ups every night at the age of 15 before I joined the gym at 17.

Phoenix Fitness:
Did you consider a personal trainer or workout plan?

Don:
I used to challenge my friends to use all the equipment each session at the gym as we did not have a plan. It soon became clear that there was a need for direction and guidance through the help of a professional trainer in the gym.

Phoenix Fitness:
Did you create clear and trackable goals?

Don:
No I was all over the place and did not have a focus until I had a conversation with an expert.

Phoenix Fitness:
Was Transformation ever tracked during your fitness journey, if so why do you think this is important?

Don:
I track my calories intake using my fitness pal and I have a weekly routine of exercises and meal plan. It helps with consistency and also helps to find your strength and weaknesses in order to create changes. You cannot just freestyle and get the result you want.

Phoenix Fitness:
Did you ever leave focus to your fitness journey, if so what motivated you to get back on track?

Don:
I stopped training for 5months due to injuries playing football which was the longest time I have had off training ever. I was motivated by the need to be active and wanting a better physique.

Phoenix Fitness:
Which exercises do you find work best for you to achieve your overall goals?

Don:

There are so many exercises that work well for me. I don’t try to complicate things so I maintain the classic workout routines which targets my full body each week. I enjoy training all body parts. Mixing Cardio with Weights (Functional) training helps to achieve overall goals.

Phoenix Fitness:
Are you happy with that you have achieved or are you wanting to do better? if so what are your next goals?

Don:
I am impressed with my current physique as I learn more about my body and how to improve it every year. I have always been better each year. I have competed twice and aim to keep on progressing.

Phoenix Fitness:
Do you have any top tips to give to beginners who are starting off their fitness journey based on your experience?

Don:
Have a goal and don’t copy others, speak to professionals and get advice and tips
Plan your week / day including workout routines and meal plans.

Stay consistent throughout and don’t cheat yourself and to finish forget about ego and slowly build and progress.
