Phoenix Fitness:

How did you start off your fitness journey?

Angfit1:

I started my fitness journey in January 2018, where I hoped to improve my mental wellbeing and to find a new hobby. After a month I discovered weight training and I have been training 5-6 times a week since. It is a real passion of mine now, despite the fact I have not been training all that long.

Phoenix Fitness:

At what stage in your life where you encouraged to get into fitness?

Angfit1:

When I first got into fitness this year, I was in my second year of university. I believe the stress of university assignments alongside living a relatively unhealthy lifestyle prompted me to start exercising. As a student, it can be easy to eat a lot of fast food and not think about your health very much, so starting my fitness journey whilst at university was exciting.

Phoenix Fitness:

Did you invest in fitness equipment?

Angfit1:

No, I have not bought any fitness equipment, aside from a skipping rope and resistance bands. I tend to only workout in the gym, so equipment for me right now, is not an option really.

Phoenix Fitness:

Have you ever tried working out at home and how did this work out for you?

Angfit1:

I have tried a few workouts at home, primarily ab workouts and yoga, however I have found that I much prefer to go to the gym than stay at home. I feel it motivates me more and separates my home life from fitness.

Phoenix Fitness:

Did you consider a personal trainer or workout plan?

Angfit1:

I considered getting a personal trainer when I first joined the gym because I had virtually no knowledge on fitness at all. However, as a student, this was obviously not an option for me, so instead I learned a lot through YouTube and other social platforms.

Phoenix Fitness:

Did you create clear and trackable goals?

Angfit1:

Yes. I love to make new goals for myself, and ensuring they are achievable is so important because it motivates you more when you know you are working towards something. Tracking progress through apps and photos is also a lot of fun to see where you have come!

Phoenix Fitness:

Was Transformation ever tracked during your fitness journey, if so why do you think this is important?

Angfit1:

I have always tracked my fitness journey, primarily through photos but I think it is really important to track your progress because you don’t tend to notice the small changes, but by taking photos regularly it enables you to see that your hard work is paying off. My transformation has been not just a physical one, but also a mental transformation which I want to track because it is so interesting and inspires me to continue my fitness journey.

Phoenix Fitness:

Did you ever leave focus to your fitness journey, if so what motivated you to get back on track?

Angfit1:

I haven’t felt I have lost track on my fitness journey, but I do feel that the reason for this is that I enjoy it. The gym and exercise are not a chore for me, it is not something I feel I must do. I enjoy working out and the way it makes me feel, so I have no reason to lose track at the moment. I think if I were to lose track, I would just remind myself why I started.

Phoenix Fitness:

Which exercises do you find work best for you to achieve your overall goals?

Angfit1:

I love to weight train, and so strength and muscle gain is a priority for me. I would say the best exercises/lifts for me are bicep curls, hip thrusts and overhead press because when I incorporate these into my training I can see the progress in both strength and size, so I think these work well for me.

Phoenix Fitness:

Are you happy with that you have achieved or are you wanting to do better? if so what are your next goals?

Angfit1:

I am beyond pleased with the progress I have made so far, and I am proud that I have got this far with my fitness journey. Obviously, this is a huge part of my lifestyle now, so I hope to create new goals for myself to achieve. My next goal is to focus on my compound lifts and just try to get stronger by lifting heavier, so I would like to put all of my efforts into this.

Phoenix Fitness:

Do you have any top tips to give to beginners who are starting off their fitness journey based on your experience?

Angfit1:

First of all, if you are joining the gym then if you can, join with someone.  A friend or partner is a great way to make walking into the gym less daunting and gives you a little confidence boost. I would also recommend creating a playlist on your phone of music that motivates you and listening to that while you work out. Lastly, give things a go, and if you don’t like them you can always try something else. There is something for everyone within fitness, and so if you figure out what it is you are passionate about, then fitness becomes so much fun.
