Phoenix Fitness:
How did you start off your fitness journey?
At what stage in your life where you encouraged to get into fitness?

Adam:

I started my fitness journey properly in September 2017. I have played about in the gym but I was never consistent, I knew what I was doing due to my degree in physiotherapy and keen interest in anatomy but I never played it to myself.

I was enjoying my time at University playing rugby and lacrosse so I was lightly involved in fitness but I very much liked the social aspect of uni and in a lot of drinking. I was bartender and I loved it and to have a drink at work doing shots of Jager Meister and tequila and drinking beer was not good for my figure as you can imagine.

So, I left bartending at the end of September 2017. I knew what I had to do to change my body around, I just had to put my head down in order to do it. Looking at myself in the mirror at this point was hard and I know it is shallow but I’m pretty sure my physique was affecting my relationship of the time. I knew I could be something so much better so I decided to put in the work and make the change.

Phoenix Fitness:
Did you invest in fitness equipment?

Adam:

I was confident and comfortable in a gym environment so I didn’t need to invest in any home equipment I just invested in a gym membership and it was one of the best things I ever did.

Phoenix Fitness
Have you ever tried working out at home and how did this work out for you?

Adam:

To start off my weight loss journey I did a lot of high-intensity interval training with resistance. These types of workouts: 100% to be done at home, I just choose to do them in a gym environment because I found it was better for my mind set to have the change of scenery to tell my body it was time to exercise.

Phoenix Fitness:
Did you consider a personal trainer or workout plan?

Adam:

With my degree in physiotherapy and previous knowledge of exercise physiology I don’t believe I needed a personal trainer are a work up one I was able to do the workout plans myself and I knew how to make my diet sustainable so I didn’t go off track in the long-term.

Phoenix Fitness:
Did you create clear and trackable goals?

Adam:

I believe having consistent goals that are trackable is 100% the best way to go forward and keep you accountable for your results whether that’s weight loss, strength goals or body fat goals (which mine were).

Phoenix Fitness:
Was Transformation ever tracked during your fitness journey, if so why do you think this is important?

Adam:

I tracked my body fat percentage throughout my transformation by using the Machines in gym. I realise that they wasn’t very accurate but at least they gave me a consistent results. As well is this, I tracked my appearance with progression photos. I was very reluctant to take them at first but now I wish I have taken so many more because it’s all about the journey and showing off your journey is one of the most motivating things for other people I have found.

Phoenix Fitness:

Did you ever leave focus to your fitness journey, if so what motivated you to get back on track?

Adam:

There was definitely time where I wasn’t as motivated and found it difficult to drag myself to the gym but once I was there it got a lot easier. Seeing the progress is a massive motivator so if you can stick at something for at least four weeks to 6 weeks and you start seeing results I will motivate you so much.

Phoenix Fitness:
Which exercises do you find work best for you to achieve your overall goals?

Adam:

Personally, losing the initial amount is where I found doing high-intensity interval training work the best but I focused this on a different body parts each time so using more the resistance training mentality to the interval training cardio style.

A little bit lighter crossfit style training. As I started to get Leaner I wanted to build up muscle so I started doing more of a focus onto resistance training and bodybuilding style workouts.

Phoenix Fitness:
Are you happy with that you have achieved or are you wanting to do better? if so what are your next goals?

Adam:

I am very happy with what I have achieved in the past year and a half but I want more and to take myself to the next level I have signed up to do and men’s physique bodybuilding competition at the end of March which I am really looking forward to it and is given me a goal to work towards to put my body to the limit.

Phoenix Fitness:
Do you have any top tips to give to beginners who are starting off their fitness journey based on your experience?

Adam:

My biggest tip for beginners is to just do it! There is no I’ll start on Monday, there is no I will wait until next week, do it now! Don’t restrict yourself too much if you trying go to the gym six times a week and you know that your lifestyle doesn’t let that happen you will fail!

If you try and cut out too much of your favourite foods and just be completely clean all the time you will fail! If you stop socialising and going out with your friends because you’re trying to do the healthy option you will fail! It’s not about short-term goals is about looking at where you want to be in the long-term and how was best to achieve that.

If you do like my transformation and what I have had to say here I do offer online coaching with diet plans and training programs and phone support. If you want to follow me further look for Instagram head over to @adam_hindley and on youtube  LA Obsession
